You heard it right, your AC can now be used as a data center and NVIDIA is doing this through their crazy new partnership.
San Francisco-based company Span, which was founded in 2018 by Arch Rao is a energy-tech company transforming home electrical systems and, as of May 2026, launching “XFRA” mini-data centers in collaboration with Nvidia and PulteGroup.
Span is working with PulteGroup, a residential home construction company, on the initial rollout of XFRA systems in the USA
AI has a massive problem right now which is Power.
The world is running out of electricity for AI data centers. Companies like OpenAI, Meta and Google are building giant server farms everywhere.
But one new data center can take 4 to 7 years to build and AI demand is growing way faster than that. Meanwhile, most homes barely use the electricity they’re wired for. So, NVIDIA came up with a wild solution.
Instead of building more giant AI factories, what if every neighborhood became one? NVIDIA just partnered with a home building company and an energy startup to put mini AI data centers outside people’s homes. They are building fridge-sized boxes that sit next to your AC unit.
Each box inside will be equipped with 16 powerful NVIDIA AI chips. The same kind companies like OpenAI and Meta are spending billions to get access to. These boxes quietly use leftover household power to run AI tasks in the background 24-7. But why should homeowners keep such boxes?
Well, they get rewarded for it. Lower electricity bills, lower internet bills, potentially even free utilities in some cases.
So while everyone is watching billionaires race to space, Nvidia may have quietly turned the suburbs in your vicinity into an AI infrastructure.
